HERE WE GO AGAIN?...
2007 has marked as the year of the upset! In College Football it all started with perhaps the BIGGEST upset in College Football History, when we saw Division 1-AA (Sorry can't do the FCS Thing) Appalachian State beat 5th-Ranked Michigan in the BIG-HOUSE. Then we saw Stanford SHOCK 2nd-Ranked USC, South Florida beat Auburn ON-THE-ROAD, North Dakota State SMASH Minnesota in The Gopher-Dome, and Deleware beat Navy to just name a few. In Mixed-Martial-Arts, 250-Year Old Randy Couture beat Tim Sylvia for the UFC Heavyweight Title, Gabriel Gonzaga KNOCKED-OUT Cro Cop with the Russian's own signature high-kick, Nick Diaz out slugged Takanori Gomi, and Chuck Liddell got Manhandled by Keith Jardine. Well, if history repeats itself we are in for a WILD 2008 in College Basketball. In both College Football and MMA it all started with one signature UPSET (Appalachian State/Nick Diaz) Then the Flood Gates were opened. In just the first 2 weeks of College Hoops we already saw the Signature "W"...Division II Grand Valley State, Known for its DOMINATION of d-2 College Football beat SPARTY! That's Right...Michigan State were beat by The Lakers who looked as good as the NBA's Lakers in that game, 85-82 in Double OT. THEN, Last-Night, Gardner-Webb, a team that joined the Division-1 ranks just 7 years ago, STRAIGHT-UP-SMASHED 22nd-Ranked Kentucky in Rupp Arena, 84-68. So the foundation has been layed...And it's some perfect timing huh? As those GIANT-KILLERS of Chaminade hit the floor in the EA Sports Maui Invitational in just 2 weeks.

I sure hope this is the begining of more upsets. I have never been so shocked than in thsi college football year. Also thanks guys for saying my name on the radio. Funny thing is this is my real name. NAH just joke. ALOHA my braddas
Of all the upsets this year in MMA and College Football I'm interested in what you guys think are the top three. Look forward to reading what you think. Malama Pono (that's for you Jim)
Thanks for the Question...
For me Personally.
1. Appalachian State over Michigan
Despite what anybody says about Michigan's talent this season, It's still App-State going ON THE ROAD to Ann Arbour and beating THE 5th Ranked WOLVERINES.
2. Gonzaga def. Cro Cop
This is what the entire MMA World was waiting for...Cro Cop in the UFC on the road to his possible title match-up with Couture and OUT OF NO WHERE! Gonzaga delivers one of the most devistating High-Kicks I have ever seen.
3. Stanford def. #2 USC
Jim Harbaugh in his first year talking all kinds of smack to Pete Carroll and The Trojans all week, I was thinking USC would murder these guys. THen with a Polynesian Kid making his first Start at QB (Tavita Pritchard) The Cardinal SHOCKED the WORLD! Ending the LSU/USC Collision Course for the National Title.
Thanks for the Support, "Anonymous" (I hope that isn't your name..Hahaha!)
Oh, and by the Way, Karang yo Alaz MUCH MAHALO and You one Funny Guy!
I think Rob's got it about right.
But I think the Stanford win was a bigger surprise than Gonzaga....simply because MMA is a sport prone to upsets, because of the elevated probablity of knockouts. Still...it was a shocker.
Honorable mention psets for the fall:
- college (Colorado over Oklahoma)
- high school (Kapolei over Kahuku)
- High school vball (Iolani over Kamehameha regular season)
- New York Mets fans....just upset period!
Appalachian State over Michigan BY FAR the upset of the year. I agree with Stanford over USC at two. But, I don't know about Gonzaga over Cro-Cop. Initially it was a shock but, after watching the fight again it really looked like Cro-Cop was not into it (same with the Cheick Kongo fight). Plus, I think the Pride guys really under estimate the differences of Pride rules and UFC rules, not to mention the cage aspect. Unfortunately, I don't have any other upset to replace it.
Anyway, Can you see any major upsets in the near future?
