McMackin Possible Head Coaching Candidate

Warriors Defensive Coordinator Greg McMackin is now reportedly in the running for the vacant head coaching job at the University of Hawaii and some sources are considering the former Oregon Tech head coach as a front runner for the position. McMackin was originally reported to join June Jones, Dan Morrison and Wes Suan at SMU. With recruiting resuming very soon and national letter of intent set for February 6th the university is expected to make a decision next week. The list of other possible replacements still up for the head coaching position are: Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow, co-defensive coordinator at the University of Texas Duane Akina, New York Giants defensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, San Jose State Head Coach Dick Tomey and Warriors linebackers Coach Cal Lee.

I am on the Coach Mcmak bandwagon! I hope they just hurry up and name him coach today. By the way met Demello today at Tesoro in town. Nice meeting you and keep up the great work.

I would still prefer Norm Chow. I think a big name will attract big recruits. But McMackin would be a great fit and would probably be a very good Head Coach. Either of them would be a step in the right direction for the Warriors.

Hey Wahine you gotta bring some of your friends from the boards over here. I love how The Leaheys, Demello, Barnaby, and Theo are so real. They say what they feel not like that other station that is linked to U of H.

Eh DeMello, you funny. I like watching you on the news. Tell Kanoa to kick some UH administrators' butt to fund UH Athletics! I'm all for McMackin as HC, and continuity for a winning program.

How come we no more interim coach?

As for the other 30 canidates, it would be amusing if you could ask them questions on whether they could connect with the fans and players. Then ask them to explain "loco moco, Kanack attack, slippah, Imua, opihi, what pa-ke, no act, give-um, so-le, and pono." Knowledge of Hawaii and connecting with boosters is key for HC. Of course, Chow, Akinia, and others who grew up here, no need.

The worst one I heard was John L. Smith wants the job. I think Leahey and Leahey should call and talk to him. He's gotta be kidding after talking all that crap about Hawaii after UH beat Michigan St. I hope you guys call him and give him grief!

I agree with Wildwahine, (I usually do agree with wild wahines) McMackin for HC and Rocky for AD. Rocky will be a strong AD for these very challenging years ahead, just what we need. Donovan, Blangiardi and Amemiya would be choices 1a, 1b, and so forth.

If the administration doesn't pick McMackin for head coach, I may have to join Pops, and together we can jump out of a window somewhere together. We could probably make that a mass jump somewhere downtown, because I am sure thousands of other fans might feel the same way.
